Whine, whine, and some more whining. People are always going to say some aspect of something is stupid. Frankly, I agree that the transparent menubar in the new Mac OS X (10.5) is a what-where-they-thinking type of decision. Why? I suppose it looks fancy. Until you try to use it, that is.
Will people keep bitching about it a couple of months from now? No. Hell, people were the same way about the Dock when OS X originally showed up. Do you hear any arguments about getting rid of it now? Nope. Time heals all wounds, I suppose (sorry for using that saying).
Personally, I would just edit my wallpapers to include a grey/white bar the size of the menubar at the top of them. I bet you people will get used to it soon enough. Or someone will make a good solid third-party solution to make it the way it should be. Whatever.

On the other hand, I believe that the operating system will no longer support the G3 chip. That is, from what I've heard.
I've been wondering about upgrading the MovableType on this server to (now free) version 4. I need to see if it offers anything new that I could use. Otherwise, I don't really see any need to upgrade.
We'll see. Oh yes, we'll see...
Yep. Apparently Apple released it today. I already have it installed on my Gaming PC and it is alright. Mind you, its hard to get excited about a web browser these days.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy using it too. I'll see how good it really is in the days ahead. Looking good so far, though.
I think I'm going to post up some Mac OS X icons I made for your use. I'll make a special place for 'em too. Probably a whole different 'Mac' section over there on the right. Yea, that's what I'm going to do.
It has been a while since I last reviewed any type of software. Mind you, its been a while since I've really 'test driven' anything. I've pretty much been sticking to the software I usually use.
On an almost daily occurence, I'll skim over the latest software shown on MacUpdate for any free goodies. Sometimes, even, I'll find something worthy of praise. I have found a simple budgeting program called iBudget to be such a program.
It is still at version 0.3 and doesn't support importing any financial records, but it does what it does well. It even supports a simple sort of budgeting where you can set a monthly allowance for a certain type of category.
The thing that I most liked about this application was its polish. Unlike others I've seen in the early stages of development, this app doesn't have any weird GUI problems or strange errors. It has more than performed up to my expectations in the time I've been using it, in fact.
Why don't you, loyal reader(s), give this program the good 'ole college try?
Playing DVDs on our computers are something that we all take for granted. Sometimes it is nice to just sit back in a reclining office chair and watch a movie or even some episodes of your favorite TV show.
Unfortunately, something this simple isn't something to be taken for granted on my computer. I did enjoy a nice time watching DVDs under the OS 10.3s. Once I upgraded to Tiger (10.4.x), though, this became a lesson in anger management.
The problem was mainly that Apple's DVD Player became choppy and unreliable when playing a DVD, especially when viewing the DVD menus (for some reason). I eventually came to the conclusion that it had to do something with the subtitle on some of my anime DVDs. For instance, it played Escaflowne fine when I watched it dubbed (menus were still choppy). I had to fall back on the unpolished, but still useable, VLC.
That was, of course, until I decided to upgrade to the latest version of VLC for no apparent reason. Well, it didn't even show the videos anymore. Sometimes it would let audio through but that was it. So, even VLC had failed me.
Here I am now, unable to watch a simple DVD on my own damn computer. Figures. I do have my suspicions on what the cause could be. For Apple's DVD player, at least. I just need to find a previous version of VLC to get it working again.
I suppose I'll eventually fix this problem, but I suppose I'll be without the convenience of watching DVDs on my computer for a while.
Greetings again internet reader(s). How goes the weather over in your part of the internet, good? I could only hope so.
Once again, in my quest to bring you good content, I have decided to release the source of my Applescript creation TotalSpaceUsed. Great title, huh?
Simple, to say the least, but something. Don't go thinking this is the extent of my Applescript prowess. You should see some of the gargantuan scripts I wrote as CGIs for my MacHTTP server (Which, by the way, is still running).
Something at least...
Well, I got bored and decided to do another of my little software reviews. As always, its of some freeware. So, if it sounds good you can enjoy it for free. Hurray for things costing nothing.
The software that I will be reviewing is a Tetris incarnation called Quinn. You can pretty much expect to play tetris when you get this game. It does support network play but I haven't tested that; since, I have no one to play with. Nevertheless, the one thing I have to say about it is that it is extremely polished. Everything is smooth and the nice little eye candy effects are pleasant.
This is just perfect for when I just feel like playing a quick game of something. A true testament to good design.
Short as always...
