Skype and Intel: An unholy alliance...
YOu might have heard not long ago, but Skype released their new thingy that allows 10-way conference calling (Yea, I know. Who cares?). The thing is that they said that only Intel processors could handle it, and they limited other processors (pretty much only AMD) to only 5-way calls, or something.
Apparently, as I read on Slashdot last week, someone had patched Skype so that all processors could use it. This seems to say that it wasn't really Intel optimised. Hmm, comtemplation.
(sorry for the lateness of this entry, i had saved it from earlier and only now got around to publishing it)

that is.... so... so... sad. Who the fark did Intel think they were going to fool?
Well, i know who they thought they thought they were going to fool -- the "dumb" computer user populace, which, sadly enough, is about 90 to 95% of people that use computers.
See, that's why I like Ventrilo. I know it's a lot different than Skype and sure it only allows 8 users at a time but I don't have to get involved with processor rhetoric. "Will my program work with my AMD processor or do I need to buy an overpriced Intel processor? Do I need to download patches for the program and will Windows work well with it?" It's all bullshit to me.
I know nothing about processors and all that crap, but I know this much: it's not the make of your processor that counts, it's not getting suckered out of a few hundred bucks that truly matters.
Ok, I'll shut up now.
